About This Class:
Read More This is a 16 hour training module packed into 2 days (7 hr lecture plus 9 hr pool lab). This 2-day polyclinic is designed to teach your staff how to transition your therapy pool into a sensory and motor planning room for the pediatric client as well as the geriatric client. Extrapolated from the 16 treatment station concept, therapists will harness the use of common everyday items such as bath blankets, snow shovels, umbrellas, polyspots and clingy clothes to create a sensory effect and to achieve a functional motor response. This course includes information on integrating primitive reflexes into aquatic session. Each exercise and activity will be examined from the perspective of all the senses: vestibular, tactile, proprioceptive, visual and auditory. Read More This course is designed for aquatic professionals (from pediatric to geriatric) that are interested in how to create a sensory room in their pool and to use the hydrodynamic water principles to improve body awareness, focus and attention, vestibular processing and motor planning. Those likely to benefit most are: PTAs, PTAs, OTs, OTAs and ATCs who are at the basic or intermediate level of skill acquisition and those who are at a higher level of skill, but who are looking for a survey course that provides a sample of most aquatic therapy techniques currently practiced. Additionally, individuals who are taking the ATU 84-hour specialty tracks typically attend this class first in order to provide the proper foundation for the higher level trainings. *This class acts as an elective to either the geriatric or pediatric track.
